U BUSY?
Who is NOT busy?
Being busy seems like the "normal" this day in time. However, it does not have 2 b the "normal" n your life. I struggle w/being 2 busy & we struggle as a family. Each month I evaluate every area of my life (spiritual, marriage, parenting, leadership, etc). I ask the Holy Spirit what is necessary & what needs 2 go! I also ask what works, what does not, & what is YOUR plan of action 2 make a change & get results that bring YOU glory. I promise -- every time -- the Lord gives clear direction.
A lot of our daily routines (speaking of 2day's average family), have 2 many things n it that have no purpose. Every thing we do must have purpose & b intentional. This means we need 2 get rid of what we think is so important & do what God commands is important.
Our family does not watch a lot of TV due 2 not only what it influences, but it is a time waster. My boys do not play on the computer or watch a lot of movies b/c I want them 2 b outside & use their brains 4 imagination. Not 2 mention just having conversations between husband/wife & w/our children. Board games & puzzles are highly encouraged during organized play time. We don't allow our boys 2 play a sport every season b/c we feel that controls our schedule instead of us controlling our schedule. One night a week is devoted 2 only the four of us. There is no tv or technology allowed. We try 2 do a date night every other week -- at least once a month. We also try 2 have someone over 4 dinner once a week or every other week. All this cultivates relationships!
I also operate off a pretty strict daily routine so everything necessary gets accomplished. Like the following: quiet time w/God, house hold chores, homeschool, exercise, grocery shopping, work, ministry, etc.... If I do not then I get behind, feel overwhelmed, have no down time, and then do not sleep well.
I share all this b/c not only do I struggle w/being busy, but I watch my good friends & family spinning out of control w/being busy! The change must come w/sitting down & making conscious changes. However, that is not enough. You need a plan of action, get the WHOLE family on board & b CONSISTANT so it actually works. That is the only way 2 get results. All of our lives r busy & we must reevaluate very often due 2 the current "season" of our life.
Don't try 2 keep up w/the "statis quo" - even n our church/Christian circles. Attending every bday party, every ballgame, every invite 2 dinner, every whatever IS NOT HEALTHY 4 your family. I believe it does not bring glory 2 God. He created us 2 bring glory 2 Him & point others 2 Him. So much of our "busy" schedules do not include either of those!
If what we r doing does not line up w/God's purpose, we r wasting our lives. Maybe u need 2 take a moment & reevaluate your life & your family. Ask the Holy Spirit 2 give u wisdom. When your children are grown, what purpose are u teaching them 2 carry 2 their family?????
The average "American dream" is not what we r to pass along.
More like: love God & love others. (not love: money, sports, job, entertainment, computers, cell phones, etc)
Do You See It?
